Name: Jay
Three words to describe yourself: A rugged individualist
Jay was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia but lived in South Georgia from age eleven to age seventeen. The day after high school graduation, Jay tried to join Special Forces, but instead joined the Navy. He worked as the Boatswain's mate in California doing various service jobs like painting and maintenance work. After six years of working for the Navy, Jay retired and started to roof and do other "odd jobs just to survive." Currently, Jay is on probation, but he would like to travel more, and he would like to "stay right with the Lord and the government." Jay said that he was accused of threatening someone, but instead of going to trial to clear his name, Jay took the plea offer so he could get out of jail faster. He said, "It's easy to get caught up in saying something you didn't do," but Jay said that being in jail "got him out of a group of people and associates that were a bad influence. I got closer to God." I asked Jay if he knew what his purpose in life was. He replied, "I think God puts us here to help others . . . As soon as I surrendered, I got better." Jay also says he is the oldest Peter Pan.
