84/365

Name: Doug
Three words to describe yourself: eccentric, eclectic, extraordinary
This is Doug, but his artist's name is "Dug", like "I dug a hole." He was born in Vermillion, Kansas, and the morning after high school graduation, Doug left Kansas to attend Manatee Junior College in Florida for two years. He took a class called Coastal Ecosystem, and for one of his assignments, Doug had to find different foods to eat in the wild. Growing up hunting and fishing, Doug decided to kill a raccoon. This incident made him turn vegan because he was killing an animal that was "fighting for its life." He was drafted to the Vietnam War, but became a draft dodger as he looked into moving to Canada, or joining the Navy or Air Force instead. He decided to enroll in Shorter College as a junior, and his father described him as a "professional student." When he was almost finished earning his Bachelor's Degree, Doug took a course in clay and sculpture, and his passions were redirected, so he never finished. Doug also attended the Chiropractic school at Life University and was a massage therapist for a while. He is currently a landscape designer and a sculpture artist, and he "builds beautiful gardens" with his wife Kathy. She attended West Georgia, and they met during a meditation club. Azure, his daughter, describes him as a "total hippie" who drove a Volkswagen and hitchhiked across the country multiple times. He also says "warsh" instead of "wash."
