Name: Shantell
Three words to describe yourself: smart, party-freak, funny
Shantell was born in San Fernando Valley in California and both of her parents are from Mexico. At the age of fifteen, her father moved from Mexico to leave his family and pursue better economic opportunities and her parents met in California. Her uncle was married to an American and living in Myrtle Beach. He told Shantell's dad about how Myrtle Beach had more job opportunities and offered cheaper living than California did, so he drove across the country to visit Shantell's brother to see what the area was like. The rest of her family flew on a plane that landed in Atlanta and the airline ended up losing their luggage, so they had to stay with an aunt that lived in Atlanta. The family liked the Atlanta area, so they decided to move to Gaineville, GA because it is the poultry capital of the world and her father works in that field. For short-term goals, Shantell would like to graduate from college and either go into the dentistry or the food science fields. For the long-term, she wants to retire in Mexico in either Guadalajara or Puerta Vallarta. She says that Mexico "is so free . . . who knows about the drug cartels now", but "In the U.S. it's work, work, work . . . it's so tedious . . . I can't see myself relaxing in an environment like that". She also enjoys art and loves to draw with colored pencils and acrylic paint.
