Name: Sarjit
Three words to describe yourself: studious, geeky, sporty
Sarjit is an international student from India, and when he was seventeen years old, he moved to New York. Originally, his first choice of school was in London "but a timing issue" made him choose America. Sarjit said, "During the first few days, I couldn't adjust to the food, water, temperature," but now he says that his favorite part about moving to the U.S. is "being independent . . . I don't have to worry about my family . . . I get to work at different places." Most of his family is still in India, and Sarjit's parents originally wanted him to become a doctor but he "didn't want to put in all that hard work." Sarjit just graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) with a Bachelor's in Biology. Because he is an international student, however, he is only allowed to work a certain number of hours, so Sarjit did not want me to take a picture of him at his job for fear of being caught by the university. In the Fall, he will be attending University of Texas at Dallas to get his Master's in Biomedical Engineering and Sarjit wants to either join a prosthetics company or do research. Sarjit wants to visit Europe, more specifically Vatican City. I asked if he had any other life goals, and Sarjit replied, "My life is pretty open." Along with English, Sarjit speaks Gujarati and Hindi, and he likes watching Sci-Fi shows including Lost and Merlin.
