Name: Shreenal
Three words to describe yourself: Indian, Kenyan, Gujarati
Until four years ago, Shreenal lived in Nairobi, Kenya, where she was born. I asked about levels of corruption in Kenya, and she said that whenever the cops stopped her in the car, she either waved and drove away or gave them money. For educational reasons, Shreenal moved to the U.S. but really "wanted to come to Georgia for the peaches," she says. Shreenal said that "seeing white people was different [at school]" because her whole school in Kenya was made up of Indian students. Currently, she is on a student visa, but in two years, she can officially become a U.S. citizen and afterwards, Shreenal says the first thing she is going to do is vote. In Kenya, her dad owns an electrical business and her mom travels back and forth between India and Kenya, so in high school, Shreenal lived by herself. She comments, "Half of my parents' salary goes to plane tickets." Every summer, she goes to Kenya and this December, Shreenal is traveling to India. At UGA, Shreenal is studying Biology and is on the Pre-Med track because her parents want her to be a doctor and Shreenal wants to help people. During the interview, our friend Theresa jokingly adds, "Nothing's more satisfying than cutting into flesh." I asked about any life goals and Shreenal said, "I want to find a good husband . . . an Indian, but not a Patel . . . two kids . . . boy and girl, and I haven't decided about the names yet." She also wants to go to Australia and she speaks Gujarati, English, Hindi, and Swahili. In her free time, Shreenal enjoys watching How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Friends, and Grey's Anatomy as well as illegally downloading Bollywood movies. She used to play tennis and also cried during The Hunger Games. Shreenal used to have an imaginary dog named Fluffy, but he died of bone cancer, so she wants to transfer to GA Tech because UGA's bulldog mascot reminds her too much of Fluffy
